Life: An Interpretation By One of My Best Friends

I sit here this morning, and i find myself wondering: Does my life have any meaning? How do we judge such things? I could compare it to all of your lives... Which might be slightly embarrassing for some of you. I have concluded that there is no good way to judge your own life, so I'll move on to a broader subject. If I was religious, perhaps I would ask, Why did God create man? (or maybe not as that question may be answered in the Bible. I don't know, never having read it)But I'm not sure I believe in God. I have drawn together several theories about what I'll call the meaning of life. (Henry, don't be mad, I'm NOT COPYING YOU.) They are: 1) Life is much more simple than everyone thinks, and you should do whatever it takes to make you happy, or; 2) Theory 1 is completely ridiculous and will get you in a lot of trouble, or; 3) We are much pawns being controlled our entire lives and all our choices are made for us already, so just go with the flow and don't try to work or do anything extraordinary. OK. None of those are my view point. I'd like to represent my view like this: 4) Try as hard as you can to break out of the monotony of "normal life" and make a name for yourself, but don't do it if it doesn't make you happy. Of course, This theory needs modifications, because you shouldn't do only stuff that makes you happy. Going to the doctor or paying bills may not make you happy, but you should do it. (I am rather irritated about how the government spends tax dollars though. What a waste.) These theories lead to the obvious conclusion that the meaning of life has something to do with happiness. But that's not how I feel. I think the hardest part of discovering the meaning of life is putting it in words. Whoever does this, will achieve true..... I don't know. But theory four, which is getting closer to what I believe than the other theories, brings me to the question: What is normality? And the answer is much easier to find than the meaning of life. Normality is what we choose it be. Take Key school for instance. A very confined, private school, with a very large mind set of, "We're all a community, let's be happy! Yay!" many of us have been going to that school for our whole lives. We have been with almost the same kids our whole lives. We are controlled by the group mentality of community. We might complain about the way the speeches and plays are terrible, but have we done anything? No. That's because we are far more controlled at school then we realize. we are easily confined inside the way everyone thinks, because of the way we think. We will never break free unless we change the group's mind set. And back to the question of life. Is our job to break loose of everything we know? I think it is, but you must be careful in the way you go about it.
